Australia’s leading four-wheel-drive accessory manufacturer, ARB, has rolled out its equipment catalog for the new generation Ford Ranger. Here are highlights from a list of over 100 options.
Four-wheel-drive accessory manufacturer ARB has released a catalog of newly developed parts for the 2023 Ford Ranger – and it has almost everything covered, including a kitchen sink.
A detailed list of more than 100 factory-guaranteed ARB accessories for the 2023 Ford Ranger has been distributed to Ford dealerships, but has not yet been posted online.
ARB will have a boost on the rest of the aftermarket industry with the next-generation ute, having been integrated into the vehicle development program for the past few years and gaining official factory support from Ford.
As part of the deal – announced this time last year – the tie-up between Ford and ARB is designed to streamline some of the most popular options, as well as give Ford dealerships a greater chance of intercepting some of the benefits of 4WD accessories.
Anecdotally, a growing proportion of SUV and 4WD buyers are spending between $10,000 and $20,000 on aftermarket accessories – and the profit margin on these components is often greater than the profit margin on the vehicle itself (but possibly not at this time, given the excessive delivery charges charged by many Ford dealerships).
Customers can of course always ask dealers to fit accessories from other aftermarket suppliers – or take their vehicles elsewhere to have them fitted.
However, ARB Accessories installed by a Ford Dealer when the vehicle is new will also be covered by the same five-year/unlimited mileage warranty as the rest of the vehicle.
As previously reported, Ford has confirmed that ARB accessories sold by its dealerships will not have Ford branding, but will have Ford endorsement.
Ford dealerships have received the first ARB catalogs for the new generation Ford Ranger, as they prepare to receive their first deliveries of the ute – and receive their first deliveries of factory-built and locally designed ARB accessories – from June.
Headlining the list of Ford-approved ARB options are at least five bullbars, named Summit Bar MKII, Summit Sahara Bar MKII, Spartan Bar, Stealth Bar and Commercial Bar.
Prices for bull bars supplied by ARB to Ford dealerships so far range from $2925 to $3275 plus assembly, which is estimated to be five hours of labor. Some bullbars were not priced yet.
All new Ford Ranger ARB bull bars are designed not to interfere with the vehicle’s radar cruise control, front camera (on models so equipped), lane keep assist, speed sign recognition and front parking sensors. Some bull bars accommodate four parking sensors, while others accommodate six parking sensors.
There are two options for underbody protection, both starting at the same price: $1195 plus mounting.
An option called Under Vehicle Protection (UVP) – made from 3mm laser-cut, press-formed and bent sheet steel – is the longer of the two options and designed to protect steering components, the crankcase engine, as well as the transmission and transfer case.
The other option – called Under Vehicle Armor (UVA) – is a complete replacement for the original protective pan, made from “cross-linked UV stabilized polymer” which is “non-corrosive and offers superior heat resistance” .
ARB also notes that this option is compatible with stock Ford Ranger bumpers as well as ARB bull bars.
Both underbody protection options claim to require an hour to fit.
Another popular option is probably the rear side step compatible steel bumper. Its price is $1835 (plus one hour of editing).
ARB says the steel rear bar is made from 3mm bent and laser cut sheet metal, accommodates the original Ford license plate lamps, is compatible with factory rear parking sensors and leaves room for sidesteps on the lower rear fenders.
The sturdy bar also has high lifting points and an anodized aluminum top tread plate.
It adds about 20mm to the length of the vehicle.
The rear steel bar is finished in matte black ex-ARB paint; color matching to vehicle is optional.
ARB side rails and steps are manufactured from 60.3mm diameter tubing and are available in three separate or grouped components.
ARB forged recovery points—rated up to 8,000 kg at maximum front-wheel steering angle—are $252 each, plus 30 minutes of assembly time.
There are at least three awnings available, ranging in price from $2640 to $4772. Assembly cost estimates range from $520 to $585.
When fitted with additional and optional ARB internal bars, the dynamic roof load of some ARB awnings is rated at a maximum of 100 kg, while the static roof load in this form is rated at a maximum of 350 kg .
ARB notes that all roof loads should be evenly weighted and properly secured.
The same rules apply to ARB roof rack options for the cab of the vehicle.
The basic ARB rack mount kit starts at $495, while the basic roof rack rig is listed at $695. The brochure states that an assembly time of 2.5 hours is required.
The maximum load per base rack beam is 25 kg and, in accordance with previous ARB roof load warnings, the weight of the cargo must be evenly distributed and properly secured.
Available to order now — with first arrivals slated for July — is a new ARB Sport Lid hardtop, priced at $2855 plus $260 for assembly.
A premium upgrade kit option adds a wiring harness, central locking and interior lighting (although it is battery operated rather than running off the car battery). The price of this option is to be confirmed.
Practical and available as an option on today’s Volkswagen Amarok, ARB will offer a “Tailgate Assistance” shock absorber on the new Ford Ranger.
Priced at $155 a pair, these dampers slow the tailgate’s opening speed and reduce closing effort.
A ready-made modular drawer box for the back shelf – which is made of galvanized steel – costs from $490 (plus $97.50 for assembly), and is the starting point before other drawers and other accessories such as a refrigerator or a kitchen sink are added.
ARB also offers plug-and-play wiring harnesses, second battery kits, and other electrical add-ons. Prices are yet to be confirmed.
There is also a Safari Snorkel backed by Ford and ARB, from $638, please adjust costs.
An ARB-supported Frontier long-range diesel tank (140 liters) is planned from June for $1360 plus fitting.
Like previous ARB/Frontier Long Range fuel tanks, this one is made from an impact resistant (cross-linking) polymer material, is a one-piece construction and has been designed to fill voids in the underbody to maximize the fuel capacity.
Plastic construction (the same material used for the standard tank) means there is no rusting of the tank itself and allows for flexibility in the vehicle chassis.
The ARB long range tank accepts the stock Ford Ranger fuel pump module, comes with a strap mounting kit, and each is individually pressure tested before being sent out for fitting.
There is also a huge range of ARB / Old Man Emu suspension upgrade kits, including GVM upgrades.
ARB offers new shocks and springs (coil fronts and leaf rears) in a wide range of capacities. Prices are yet to be announced.
