Whether you are a hobbyist or a business, time matters. For the Cricut Easy Press 3classic ease of use has been further enhanced with Bluetooth and a new Cricut Heat app.

With better control of your workspace heating, the question is, how much can it save you?

Cricut EasyPress 3 Technical Specifications

Cricut EasyPress 3 Countdown

For newcomers to Cricut’s EasyPress line, there are two main sizes. The larger 12 x 10 inch (30 x 25 cm) option covers larger options like sweatshirts, blankets or banners. Meanwhile, the more compact 9 x 9 inch (22.5 x 22.5 cm) variant fits standard sized t-shirts, bags and pillowcases.

Whichever size you choose, both can do most of each other’s jobs. Instead, you’ll change the number of presses and the exact positioning of the press. Both can also tackle iron-on vinyl (HTV), infusible inks and sublimation paper.

As with the Cricut EasyPress 2, you can also reach temperatures up to 400℉ (205°C) on the ceramic-coated heating plate. To manage that heat, there’s still an included insulated base and the auto shut-off feature. If the EasyPress 3 is left alone for ten minutes, the device will automatically turn off.

In addition to its basic functionality, Bluetooth now makes it easy to send exact timing and temperature settings to the EasyPress.

Connecting through Cricut Heat

When first powering up the EasyPress 3, there is a slight detour to take first. The device is sent to pairing mode, so you will see the screen flash the word APP next to a flashing power button. To work around this, you will need to download the Cricut Heat app and sign in with your Cricut ID.

To test Bluetooth pairing of any device through an app, I choose to pair with both an older and newer device. With a Samsung Galaxy S7 and a Google Pixel 6 XL, the EasyPress 3 was detected instantly. The actual activation only takes a few more seconds after that.

Afterwards, when the Cricut Heat app initially prompts you to do its trial iron project, it’s best to ignore it. The EasyPress 3 wouldn’t sync with the app until I completed the update. However, you are free to resume the trial project afterwards.

With everything updated, you’re free to start a new project by following the Cricut Heat app’s categories for transfer material, what it’s applied to, and your work surface. Beyond these presets, you can send custom settings for time and temperature to the EasyPress 3. If you access the app settings, you can also change the default temperature and measurement units.

Streamline with Cricut Heat

When you start a new project with Cricut Heat, it takes a few moments to enter your selections. Meanwhile, the Cricut Heat app provides you with all the essential information for your project. This primarily comes in the recommended settings which tell you the basic heating procedure.

From there, you can view more detailed instructions to reinforce the exact procedure for your type of material. And you can also scroll down to see a list of what you’ll need to complete the project. If you think the settings won’t work, you also have the option of changing them before sending them to the EasyPress 3.

For the most part, you’ll just have to press the button to send your settings. Following the on-screen prompts doesn’t take very long; you are guided every step of the way.

The EasyPress 3 will also maintain the same temperature as your last project. So if you’re doing more than one and don’t need a booster, you don’t need to continue with Cricut Heat. Instead, you can just set the timer and use the press manually via its Go button.

Heat and material management for your projects

For testing, Cricut provided the Larger EasyPress 3 (12 x 10 inches) alongside a Large EasyPress Mat (20 x 16 inches). Depending on the projects you want to take on, you will sometimes see the Cricut Heat app issue material-specific warnings. For example, if you work with infusible ink transfers, you will see their use not recommended without an EasyPress mat.

In practice, if you are working with unfamiliar materials, it is worth checking out different project combinations in advance. By going through Cricut Heat’s required materials lists, you can double-check everything you’ll need. It’s a small tradeoff from the nasty mess of bleeding or overheating materials.

Working with Smart Iron-On

With the EasyPress 3, one of the biggest selling points for new users is the extra layer of easy access. If you’re already using one of Cricut’s new machines like the Cricut Maker 3, you can also capitalize on smart matless materials. The Cricut Heat app already has the temperature and timing preset, so just let your machine cut and weed the materials before placement.

While this pairing with the EasyPress 3 is generally the fastest, it does have some disharmony with the Cricut Heat app. When you take advantage of the option to cut out larger designs, you’ll notice that the Cricut Heat app doesn’t really account for multiple presses of a design. Instead, the application’s step-by-step procedure will break down here as it’s easier to skip it at this point.

Manual operation isn’t a big deal in these cases, but it’s a small deterrent to the overall speed achieved using the Cricut Heat app. In practice, those who have used an EasyPress before will find nothing so different. And it’s even faster when working on smaller elements with smart materials.

Work with infusible ink

Unlike Cricut’s smart irons, infusible ink options provide different visual effects, but at a small trade-off. When working with the Cricut Heat app, these projects are typically the ones that require the use of card stock to prevent bleeding and butcher paper as an additional buffer. Also, if you’re using a newer machine, you’ll still be using a Cricut mat.

However, these stunning visual effects and a wider variety of blank elements allow for even more creative projects. If you don’t want to cut from Cricut’s Infusible Ink Sheets, you can draw and color copy paper using the Infusible Ink Pens. Then you are free to transfer later with the EasyPress 3.

In terms of heat transfers, it also caused the heat transfer at the highest temperature. For the ceramic coasters, the EasyPress 3 ran at 400℉ for two hundred and forty seconds. If you’re making multiple back-to-backs, don’t be surprised if you see any discoloration or degradation of the card stock.

Overall, Infusible Ink Transfers require a few extra steps, but they can be removed almost as quickly as some of Cricut’s smart projects.

Should you buy the Cricut EasyPress 3?

Along with the Cricut EasyPress 3, it’s a great option for anyone looking to solve problems. Even if you’re a veteran, the Cricut Heat app reduces potential errors. So, when working with different material subtypes, you don’t have to doubt yourself or check the settings.

New users will benefit the most; it’s also a great way to refresh your memory. If you’re already used to capitalizing on Cricut’s design space for all your project management and files, Cricut Heat fills a very similar niche. It won’t be enough to get everyone to upgrade to the EasyPress 2, but it’s a welcome option if you want to buy another size variant.

Overall, the EasyPress 3 offers a quick way to improve your workflow while you focus on the project. If you want the crafting aisle to be more tech-friendly, this is an easy way to do it.
