Chevrolet’s First Pursuit-Rated Silverado Teams Up With Legendary Tahoe PPV

DETROIT – Building on 25 years of success with the Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicle, Chevrolet has introduced its first pursuit Silverado. The 2023 Silverado Police Pursuit Vehicle is a crew cab, short-bed, four-wheel drive truck designed for high speeds and dynamic capabilities with the added comfort and large storage capacity needed for an everyday patrol vehicle .

“We are constantly having conversations with customers and evaluating how we can best meet their needs,” said Ed Peper, U.S. vice president of GM Fleet. “Our 25 years of engineering Tahoe Police pursuit vehicles, combined with Chevrolet’s 100 years of truck success, positions us excellently to deliver a truly capable Silverado PPV to our customers.”

Extending Chevrolet’s Performance PPV Success
The Silverado PPV shares many of the most desirable Tahoe PPV performance underpinnings. Highlights include a 355-hp 5.3L V8 engine, standard 10-speed automatic transmission and six-piston Brembo front brake calipers with 16-inch rotors for added brake durability. Performance is optimized with a standard heavy-duty engine air filter.

Providing confidence on the road at top speeds, the Silverado PPV features a certified speedometer, 20-inch black steel wheels borrowed from the Tahoe PPV and 20-inch speed-rated Goodyear all-terrain tires . The turning radius is an impressive 46.9 feet.
To meet non-trailer hauling needs for the Marine and Mounted Divisions, the Silverado PPV comes standard with a maximum towing capacity of 9,300 pounds.1.
When the chores take the Silverado PPV off the road, the truck comes standard with:

  • Rancho shocks, included with Silverado’s Proven Z71 Off-Road Package
  • Lockable rear differential
  • Protection shield

An available 2-inch suspension lift further bolsters the Silverado PPV’s off-road credentials and sets it apart from the competition. It allows for a class-leading 11.35 inches of ground clearance and increases the approach angle to an impressive 25.9 degrees.

Designed to be furnished
A long-time supplier to law enforcement agencies, Chevrolet knows the importance of having a variety of specialty equipment options available that allow for easy adjustment.2which includes:

  • Auxiliary wiring circuits for easy wiring installation to connect truck horn and siren.
  • Monitor mode circuit that allows an installer to easily install lighting control. Once a third party installs the wiring, the circuit allows control of the exterior and interior lighting of the truck, allowing discretion when patrolling.
  • Five upfit switches for easy linking to the most frequently used controls.
  • Optional removal of the front center seat so departments can customize their vehicle’s cockpit to suit their needs.
  • LED or halogen spotlights.

To help reduce customer cost and upgrade time, the truck comes standard with front and rear turn signals.

Interior comfort and competitive storage options
To help officers get into the vehicle and onto the road quickly, the truck is equipped with keyless entry, a standard start button, and a standard column shifter. With the available power cloth seats, the driver can also easily adjust the seat to suit their needs. The interior is easy to clean thanks to the heavy-duty vinyl flooring and available rear seats.

Officers carry many important digital devices to stay connected to their team. The Silverado PPV includes a 220-amp alternator and two 120-volt outlets to help keep devices powered when away from base. An optional upfit switch bank is also available with three 30 amp and two 20 amp circuits for emergency equipment.

With configurable storage options, the Silverado PPV allows customers to make the most of the 129.8 cubic feet of combined interior volume.

The 5-foot-8 truck bed with the available three-fold hard tonneau cover provides weatherproof storage for cargo that must be stored separately from the interior cabin for officer safety. Twelve standard welded ties help officers secure items in bed. Combined with the standard corner step rear bumper and an optional multi-flex tailgate, officers can access cargo more easily.

A standard suite of safety features helps law enforcement maintain control and avoid collisions. here to serve
Chevrolet first introduced the Tahoe PPV in 1997. Over the years, Chevrolet has continued to listen to officers and expanded the PPV portfolio to meet the needs of modern police forces. General Motors hosted an Official Law Enforcement Product Council more than two decades ago to learn first-hand from officers how they can effectively perform their duties behind the wheel. Senior law enforcement officers and civilian fleet managers make up the board, all of whom have been instrumental in Chevrolet’s police vehicle programs over the years.

The 2023 Silverado Police Pursuit Vehicle and Special Service Vehicle will be available beginning in late summer 2022 in the United States and Canada.

Founded in 1911 in Detroit, Chevrolet is today one of the largest automotive brands in the world, available in 80 countries with more than 3.2 million cars and trucks sold in 2020.
