cole ragans went 2 out and empty in the 5th inning, trailing 2-1…allowed only runs on Matt Duffy’s 2-R HR in the 2nd…did not walk for the 1st time in 7 career starts and had 5 strikeouts for a 2nd straight start (also 9/13 against OAK) to tie his career high…completed 5.0 PI in just 2 of his first 7 career starts.

LOS ANGELES-AL won tonight’s series opener against Texas and won 4 of last 5 games after a 4 game losing slip…won tonight despite failing to record a walk, only 5th win this type this season (last 8/29 at NYY)…pitchers had 11 strikeouts tonight, and hit 10+ batters in 2 straight games and 3 of last 4 Gs (41K total)…went 6 -8 against TEX this season, winning 5 of 9 Gs played here at Globe Life Field… tonight’s victory marked the Angels’ 500th all-time victory over the Rangers/Sensors franchise (500-475), the most number of team wins against an individual MLB franchise.

PATRICK SANDOVAL held Texas to 2 runs (both earned) and 3 hits in 5.0 innings, striking out 7 while issuing 4 season-tying walks (5x, last 8/12 against MIN)… came out after finishing 5th with a 5-2 lead after the Angels rallied for 3 points at the top of 6th, earning their 6th win of the season… Sandoval in their last 9 starts (7/29 start): 3-3 , 2.03 ERA (12 ER/53.1 IP), 50 SO/18 BB… recorded over 5.0 innings and allowed 2 or less earned runs in every outing during that span, the 2nd longest such streak in the franchise history behind just a 10-start streak by Nolan Ryan from 9/12/72-4/22/73.

MINOR LEAGUE PLAYOFFS: Double-A Frisco won 7-3 against San Antonio tonight in Game 1 of their best-of-3 division playoff series…the RoughRiders scored 7 unanswered points after facing a 3- 0 in 4 innings… after a stoppage Tomorrow, game 2 of the series is scheduled for Thursday in San Antonio.
