The perfect police truck for on-road and off-road pursuits

Chevy’s First Pursuit Pickup Has Giant 16.0-inch Rotors, Locking Rear Drift and Available 2.0-inch Suspension Lift – Impressive or What? As if trying to tell if that Ford Explorer in your rear view mirror isn’t enough is a cop, now you need to keep an eye out for the 2023 Chevy Silverado PPV.

The police department will soon receive an all-new pursuit vehicle courtesy of Chevrolet. The beastly new machine will be able to chase on public roads, through backwoods and everywhere in between. Say hello to the 2023 Silverado Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV).

This is the very first time Chevy has built a pursuit pickup truck, and it will soon join the Tahoe PPV that has been a loyal friend to police departments since its debut in 1977. When not chasing other cars, the Silverado PPV can go off road as you would expect with any good truck.

The PPV versions of the Tahoe and Silverado share quite a few components, including a powertrain and other amenities. Some of these options include auxiliary wiring circuits for easy wiring installation to connect the truck’s horn and siren. Monitor mode circuitry for easy installation of lighting controls and five switches for easy linking to the most frequently used controls. To help reduce cost to the customer, the truck comes standard with headlight and taillight turn signals. Both use a 355-hp 3.5-liter V8 paired with a meaty automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

To ensure that police officers can keep their assortment of devices charged, the Chevy Silverado PPV includes a 220 amp alternator and two 120 volt outlets. An optional switch group is available with three 30 amp circuits and two 20 amp circuits for emergency equipment. Additionally, the truck comes standard with modern safety features to help law enforcement maintain control and avoid collisions.

Chevy equips the PPV with keyless entry, a column shifter and cloth seats, and agencies can choose power-adjustable front seats, as well as upholstery and vinyl flooring for the rear seats. It also borrows electronic driver aids from the civilian Silverado, including pedestrian-detecting automatic emergency brakes, lane-keep assist and available adaptive cruise control.

The Silverado and Tahoe also share 20-inch black rims, which are mounted on Goodyear off-road tires and gigantic 16.0-inch iron front rotors squeezed by Brembo six-piston calipers. For comparison, the Silverado’s standard front rotors are three inches smaller and measure 13.0 inches in diameter.

Every 2023 Chevy Silverado PPV is configured with a crew cab and a five-foot-eight-inch short cargo box. The truck’s tow rating maxes out at 9300 pounds, and that’s 1100 pounds more than the Tahoe PPV can tow—impressive, I know. The automaker specifically mentions marine and mounted operations as practical uses of the Silverado PPV’s towing capabilities, which seems about right. Again, you never know why you’ll need a truck.

Unlike its SUV counterpart, the Silverado is available with a 2.0-inch suspension lift. This increases its clearance and approach angle to 11.4 inches and 25.9 degrees, making it harder for offenders to hide in dangerous terrain.

Even without the raised ride height, the Silverado PPV is equipped with remarkable off-road hardware. There’s a skid plate for added underbody protection, a set of Rancho shocks from the regular truck’s Z71 set, and a locking rear differential. Cops can also opt for a three-pronged hard tonneau cover for the bed or Chevy’s multi-functional tailgate – if they want to push the boat.

The interior of the Silverado PPV takes a no-nonsense approach that has been warmly received. From its tried-and-tested column shifter to its power-adjustable cloth seats and vinyl flooring options, there’s little creature comforts. The front jump seat can even be removed on demand, freeing up space for anything the cops might want to put in there.

Hitting the 2023 Chevy Silverado head-on wouldn’t be a good idea

While no one wants to see a Silverado PPV in their rearview mirror, many would love to see one perched on their driveway. In fact, thinking of the truck’s off-road chops, stripped-out interior, and all the other neat features, it’s no wonder people wish the bowtie brand would give one to ordinary, respectful citizens. laws. After all, it would be a fitting rival to the recently revealed Ford F-150 Rattler, which exists as an entry-level off-roader.

As most people remember, before the launch of the Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicle in 1997, law enforcement wheel choice was the Impala and Caprice. Chevy hasn’t revealed how much the 2023 Silverado will cost, but the company did leak that the impressive truck will be available in the United States and Canada later this summer.
