If you get the chance to spot a great vehicle across the pond, you take it. I only had one day with the 2022 Land Rover Defender 110, and it’s a day I won’t forget. Discover what the Land Rover Defender has to offer.
Is the 2022 Land Rover Defender 110 worth buying?
Yes, after spending a few hours behind the wheel of a 2022 Land Rover Defender 110, it is definitely worth every penny. The Defender starts at around $47,700, and the top-of-the-line Carpathian Edition model bumps the price up to $112,200.
I had a Defender 110 Trophy Edition. The Defender 90 has two doors and the 110 has four doors. Additionally, the Trophy Edition is limited to 220 units and starts at $91,350. So it was an exclusive model and experience.
The Trophy Edition comes with off-road tires, air springs, electronically controlled rear differential, winch installation kit, roof rack, front skid plate, 360 degree camera, deployable ladder, adjustable air suspension, etc. It’s basically loaded with off-road extras.
How does the Defender 110 work?
The 2022 Land Rover Defender Trophy Edition features a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine with an electric supercharger and a 48-volt hybrid system. According to Car and driverit develops 396 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque.
My time was mostly spent on muddy off-road trails, but I could tell it had peppy acceleration. It can hit 0-60 mph in around 6.7 seconds. The transmission offers smooth gear changes and the brakes are sure and predictable.
Typically, vehicles built for off-roading have a bit of a bouncy ride and interior noise. I didn’t go above 50 mph, but the interior was noticeably quiet. You could feel imperfections on the road but in a good way. Instead of being pushed around, I felt connected and in control.
The steering is light and responsive, and there’s no noticeable body roll in curves. When climbing obstacles, the Defender feels stable and well planted. It keeps moving even when the wheels are off the ground. Plus, the Defender is nimble and easy to maneuver on tight wooded trails.
With Hill Descent Control, the Defender descends steep grades without slipping. I used the Snow and Mud/Ruts modes for slick obstacles in slick red mud and three inches of snow. Both functions provide the optimum torque to dominate obstacles while preventing slippage.
Although the Defender is sporty, comfortable and fun, it also feels safe. You can trust this SUV to get you from point A to point B.
Does the 2022 Defender have a nice interior?
Yes, the 2022 Land Rover Defender Trophy Edition didn’t skimp on luxury comfort. The interior has solid leather seats with plenty of padding and support. It is also made of high quality materials with utilitarian elements. It is durable and easy to clean.
Many comforts such as a heated steering wheel, heated seats, ventilated seats and a massive sunroof keep you comfortable. Large windows and mirrors provide great visibility, and the surround view camera makes things even more accessible.
The 11.4-inch touchscreen and digital gauge cluster have bright, attractive graphics. The system responds quickly and displays crucial off-road information such as your pitch and roll. But the buttons could be a bit more intuitive.
It took a few minutes to learn how to change off-road modes, lower or raise the suspension, and turn on the heated seats. Instead of having a heated seat button, you hold down the temperature dial and then turn it to your preferred heat level.
But if the biggest problem is understanding the technology, then the Land Rover Defender 110 isn’t bad at all. It’s a confident and comfortable off-road beast.
