Ford Bronco BDS Pickup Concept at SEMA 2021

Let’s put that aside now. The BDS Bronco pickup concept is the closest we’ve ever gotten to a Ford Bronco pickup.

Without dwelling on it, the Bronco pickup was officially killed off earlier this year when Ford informed suppliers the project would be smoked. That brings us to the BDS Ford Bronco Pickup Concept brought to the SEMA 2021 show, which is part of a quartet of Bronco concepts that the brand is showcasing in Las Vegas.

Longtime Ford manufacturer BDS Suspensions, a subsidiary of Fox Shocks, created a quick-response fire truck based on a 2021 two-door Black Diamond Bronco. The BDS Bronco fire truck is downright fast compared to those gargantuan Unimog and KAMAZ off-road fire trucks, and could prove to be a great asset to first responders if it comes to fruition.

Mechanical work on this Ford Bronco pickup truck for the SEMA 2021 show began with a 4-inch UCA BDS system – naturally – that uses Fox 2.5 PES coilovers, adjustable BDS rear control arms, guide bar and a disconnecting the stabilizer bar. The set rides on 37-inch BFGoodrich KM3 tires which are mounted on rich-looking new gold painted heel wheels.

Ford has just unveiled new performance calibrations for the base 2.3L which can be downloaded through the OBDII port. But it’s unclear if the BDS Bronco concept uses the new calluses, or if it rocks the optional 2.7L EcoBoost V6.

Additional modifications to the Bronco pickup include CrawlTek Revolution bumpers with integrated recessed winch. There are recovery hooks and an additional skid plate protecting the front. moving backwards there is another one which and a corresponding set of retrieval hooks. Both winches are WARN Industries ZEON 10 capable of pulling up to 10,000 pounds.

Obviously, the most striking modification is the pickup bed, where the supposed firefighting and first response equipment would live. There are CrawlTek sliding steps, a custom CG1000XL CargoGlide pull-out tray, and an ARB TwinAir under-hood air compressor.

Aside from the modified hardtop, all components used on the BDS Bronco Pickup Concept are available in the Ford Accessories Catalog.
